Abstract
In posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) reconstruction, sufficient strength and length of the graftis required. Although many procedures of PCL reconstruction are reported, reconstruction usingachilles tendon autograft are rare and results of long-term follow-up are not yet reported.Accordingly, we report a case that 16 years long-term follow-up on one patient, performed PCLreconstruction using achilles tendon autograft. After traffic accident, PCL reconstruction was performed on 25-year-old male due to posteriorinstability of left knee. Ipsilateral to injury, medial part of achilles tendon with calcaneal bone fragment was harvested and transplanted. After 16 years of follow-up, it was found to have normalrange of motion in knee joint and no posterior instability. Plain radiograph did not show anydegenerative change, and magnetic resonance imaging indicated a normally maintained continuityof reconstructed PCL. Long-term follow-up demonstrated satisfactory results, proving thatachilles tendon autograft was a suitable substitute of PCL.
